Ibiza: A Walker's Paradise - A Mini-Guide to Walking in Ibiza

Ibiza is world-famous for it's super clubs and beaches, however for those seeking a more peaceful, escape-from-it-all and get-back-to-nature holiday, there are plenty of walks to discover.
There are walking trails all across the island, suitable for every fitness level, from lunchtime strolls to all day or overnight hikes. The terrain is generally arid and the sun can be severe even in the shoulder months so you want to be prepared with good walking shoes, plenty of sun protection and water.
The signage for most of the official walks has improved greatly over the last several years so if you prefer to venture out on your own, you can pick up a copy of Ibiza Walking Routes at the tourist information centre in most of the major towns or you can download it from the Internet.
If you enjoy walking with a group, there are a number of walkers groups on the island. The great thing about heading out with a group and a guide is that you'll also benefit from local knowledge and stories along the way - and it's a great way to meet like-minded people. Walking Ibiza is an established local company that take groups on one day, three day and full island walking tours and have been successfully been running them for years.
If you are particularly interested in getting active during your holiday and discovering the different trails around the island, keep in mind that it gets very hot in July and August. If you'd like to do some walks while on holiday in Ibiza, the best time to visit is April to early June and from late-September onwards. The weather is still glorious and sunny, yet the crowds and humidity are far less.
Although it can be slightly chilly in the evenings, spring is another great time to visit the island for a walking holiday. During the spring months the island of Ibiza explodes with almond blossoms and it's in full bloom in mid-February. This is one of the most beautiful times of year in Ibiza. February is famous for the full moon almond blossom walks through the valley of Santa Agnes and you can either head off one your own or hook up with some of the local walking groups.
Here are just three of the many Ibiza walks you may want to consider for your Ibiza holiday.
Sant Josep Sa Talia
Setting off from the town of San Jose in the south of Ibiza, this walking trail leads to the summit of the island's highest peak, Sant Josep Sa Talia. Whilst that sounds daunting, it's only 475 metres high and the walk is quite manageable for all levels of fitness. The trail covers 14 kilometres and takes approximately five hours. From the peak of Sa Talia you are rewarded with a breathtaking, 360 degree view of the entire island.
Cala Llonga to Sol Den Serra
On the east coast of Ibiza is the small beach resort of Cala Llonga and from here there is an enjoyable 4.7 kilometre round trip to a pretty bay called Sol Den Serra and back again. The walk will take approximately two hours and is recommended for those with a bit of walking experience. As well as the pristine Mediterranean views across to Santa Eularia and Togamago Island, a highlight of the walk is the ancient Phoenician settlement of Cap des Librell. You can also cool off at the halfway point with a dip into Sol Den Serra.
Portinatx to Faro des Moscarter
At the very tip of Ibiza's north is Portinatx and this areas boasts some excellent walking trails - again, with magical views. This walk takes you on a round trip from Portinatx beach to the Moscarter lighthouse and back again along an alternate route. The trail is 12.5 kilometres, will take approximately three hours and is suitable for all levels of fitness.
